SkyCourse – the cruise industry’s first-ever ropes course aboard the new Carnival Magic – welcomed its first thrill seekers this past weekend when the ship’s employees had a chance to test out the new facility, traversing across suspended cables while enjoying spectacular views nearly 150 feet below.

From the looks of the photos, it was an afternoon of heart-racing, palm-sweating fun as the employees had a chance to experience what’s sure to be a popular attraction on the new 130,000-ton ship, set to debut in Europe on May 1.  Each of SkyCourse’s 20 different tracks is named after a notable bridge in one of Carnival’s homeports.

Located in the SportSquare recreation complex, SkyCourse is but one of several action-packed attractions within the sprawling open-air facility, which also features an outdoor fitness area, the line’s first two-level mini golf course, a Vita course, video game area and a multi-purpose court for basketball, volleyball and soccer.  For those seeking less active pursuits, there a full bar with large screen TV.

Carnival Magic debuts May 1 with a special nine-day cruise from Venice to Barcelona.  The ship will then operate a summer schedule of seven- to 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona through October before repositioning to Galveston, Texas, for seven-day Caribbean sailings beginning November 14, 2011, becoming the port’s largest year-round ship.
