ParchedPig Smoked Porter – brewed aboard the cruise ship Carnival Horizon – received the bronze medal at the U.S. Beer Competition, becoming the first shipboard brewery to win an award at the annual event, which attracted more than 7,000 entries from around the world.
The beer is available at the brewery located within Carnival Horizon’s Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse|Brewhouse featuring smoked-on-board barbecue favorites created by Food Network star and longtime partner Guy Fieri.
Developed by Carnival BrewMaster Colin Presby, ParchedPig Smoked Porter offers big, bold flavors and notes of molasses and hickory smoke. Made with in-house smoked malt, the robust brew is the perfect complement to the delicious BBQ offerings at Smokehouse|Brewhouse.
“We take a great deal of pride in the quality and variety of our beers so we are honored and delighted to be the first cruise line to win a medal at this prestigious competition,” said Edward Allen, Carnival’s vice president of beverage operations. “Hats off to Colin and our hard-working in-house brewery team for their efforts in creating a true brewery experience aboard our ships.”
ParchedPig Smoked Porter is one of four beers brewed at Smokehouse|Brewhouse which also features ParchedPig Farmhouse Ale, ParchedPig Toasted Amber Ale, and ParchedPig West Coast IPA. Carnival Vista also houses a brewery with four beers brewed under the ThirstyFrog label. A brewery will also be featured aboard Carnival Panorama when it debuts from the West Coast later this year. Carnival is the only cruise line in North America to feature shipboard breweries.
