Thomas Murray, a 24-year veteran of the maritime industry, has been named vice president – technical operations for Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines.

In this capacity, Murray will be responsible for all technical operations for the line’s 22-vessel fleet.  He will join Carnival on April 25, reporting to Martin Landtman, the company’s senior vice president of marine operations.

Prior to joining Carnival, Murray spent the past four years at Southport, Conn.-based Chembulk Tankers where he was named vice president fleet management and managed a fleet of 19 stainless steel chemical tankers, overseeing all technical, safety, engineering, environmental and budgetary issues.

He also spent two years at Liberty Maritime Corporation, working as a port engineer responsible for eight 53,000-ton bulk carriers, and Liberty Maritime’s first PCTC/car carrier. Prior to that he spent four years as a superintendant at Sealift, Inc., and eight years at IMC/American V. Ships Marine, Ltd., where he held a number of positions, including fleet superintendent, and was responsible for a number of different types of vessels such as container ships, tankers, PCTC/car carriers and a heavy lift ship.  Murray also spent six years at sea working on a variety of cargo, dredging, tanker, and D.P. drill vessels.

He is a graduate of the State University of New York’s Maritime College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and holds a U.S. Coast Guard unlimited horsepower chief engineer license.

“With nearly 25 years of maritime experience and extensive knowledge of safety, regulatory, and engineering functions, Tom is the ideal candidate for this position and will be an outstanding asset to the Carnival organization,” said Landtman.
