Ahead of Earth Day, Carnival Cruise Line is giving an up-close look at several of its environmental initiatives through a video tour of its newest and most innovative ship, Carnival Celebration – the cruise line’s second Excel-class ship powered by liquefied natural gas. Click here to watch the video tour, Sea Sustainability in Action, which is led by Richard Pruitt, vice president of environmental operations for Carnival Cruise Line.
“A sustainable future is everyone’s responsibility,” said Pruitt. “Our guests play a big part in this, and they respond to it very well because when it comes time for their next cruise vacation, they know they can go back and enjoy the destinations they love along with their children and future generations.”
During the tour, Pruitt showcases the around-the-clock recycling operations fleetwide that enabled the cruise line’s crews to process 11 million pounds of recyclables last year. The video also highlights Carnival’s food digester initiative, which is contributing to a 35 percent reduction in food waste fleetwide. It also showcases efforts underway toward decarbonization, including the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for its newest ships.
Carnival Cruise Line’s parent company, Carnival Corporation, recently released its latest sustainability report, detailing its industry-leading initiatives.
